Blog Entry 65 of 65 Editor's Blog
My name is Annie Hundley and I'm the editor here at valleynews.com. My blog will range from what's up with the site to life for a newbie in LA.

Valleynews.com has a new editor
Contributed by: Annie Hundley/ valleynews.com   on 6/19/2007

As you may or may not know, I moved to Los Angeles a year ago to start valleynews.com for the Daily News. Well July is around the corner again and I'm preparing to pack up my tent for another change.

One of my favorite writers, Sue Monk Kidd, wrote once that growth comes in tent upheaval rather than in tent dwelling. While I can attest to the truth in that, I can also say I'm now willing to trade a little growth for some calm.

My husband and I have decided to leave Los Angeles and move to my hometown, Portland, Ore. My last day at valleynews.com is June 20.

The decision wasn't an easy one, but as we got more and more serious about making a home for ourselves in this world, we realized Los Angeles wasn't going to be that place for us. The cost of living, transportation - all those things you see making headlines every day - really hit home for us as we talked about buying a house and dealt with traffic.

We did fall in love with the weird and wonderful Valley. I'll miss my local haunts, like Serrania Park and Topanga Canyon and my slightly farther away haunts like Leo Carrillo State Beach and Neptune's Net.

I will be leaving valleynews.com in the very capable hands of Mark Kellam, the new editor. Mark has been valleynews.com's community reporter for the Southeast Valley over the past year and last month took over the Burbank/Glendale area. Before I even arrived, Mark was running what was then the Valley News print editions - community news sections that were the precursor to the citizen journalism evolution of valleynews.com. For those of you who have dealt with Mark, you know he's helpful and friendly. If you care to, send him a message at mark.kellam@dailynews.com and welcome him to the new position.

I'll be staying somewhat involved with valleynews.com over the next few weeks as it undergoes some changes, but will eventually be setting out on my own.

I've learned so much in the past year, and want to thank my staff for their hard work. Thanks also to all of you valleynews.com users and readers who have made this experience so rich and rewarding. I've enjoyed reading your stories and looking at your photos. Thanks especially to Pam Vetter, Lisa Burks, Jenifer Johnson, Robert Greene, Kathleen Melton and every other person who has embraced valleynews.com.

1. Glad you are moving back to the Pacific Northwest. 2. Didn't know you were from Portland. Cool! 3. I'm awfully proud of you...for lots of reasons. 4. I didn't ask permission to post this per our agreement. So sue me. Dr. Hundley (your father)

Annie, I'm in shock, but I understand... My husband is from Canby, just outside Portland, so maybe I'll stop by and visit you when we travel north. You have done an incredible job with ValleyNews while giving an opportunity to everyone to feel heard. You have changed the Valley for the better... Good luck & I'm sure you'll make a positive impact in Oregon - where the recycling system works! Thanks for everything, Pam!
