"Toliet To Tap Drinking Water" Let's vote on it!
Contributed by: Leonard Horowitz on 5/15/2008

Mayor Anthony Villaraigosa has resurrected a controversial plan he killed seven years ago. The plan would recycle sewage water into drinking water. This plan was called "toilet to tap water." The mayor and DWP GM David Nahai claims the science is much improved and ready to recycle enough water over the next 20 years to serve an expected 500,000 more Angelenos without having to import more water.

DWP claims the current drinking water supplied to Angelenos is so good that they plan on bottling it for retail consumption like Arrowhead and Calistoga. Would you purchase recycled "toilet to tap" drinking water? DWP has been a dysfunctional city agency. Yes they supply good drinking water up to now but "if it isn't broken then don't fix it." There is no way DWP is going to get it right. An example is the federal government asking for covers to our reservoirs to protect the drinking water from bird droppings. DWP has not even fixed that problem. Sure we need to conserve and recycle but not with recycled drinking water. It's OK for our landscapes and parks but to drink it is another story. I would like to see this plan taken to the voters and let's decide by vote if we want to drink "toilet to tap water."
