The imminent launch of Law Explorer Post 1926, sponsored by the San Fernando Valley Bar Association (SFVBA), was the focus of much discussion on May 8 at the SFVBA's Diversity Subcommittee meeting in Encino.
The SFVBA will use Law Exploring as a way to reach teens from all walks of life interested in a career in law.
Several notable members of the SFVBA and others, all of whom are interested in increasing diversity in the legal profession, attended the May 8 meeting.
Among them were:
-
Sue Bendavid
, president of the Bar Association's Board of Trustees and Explorer Post Committee Co-Chair
-
Rosie Soto
, SFVBA Director of Public Services and Explorer Post Committee Co-Chair
-
David Gurnick
, trustee and past president of the SFVBA and now the new Explorer Post's advisor
-
David I. Karp
, another member of the SFVBA and the new post's associate advisor
So that teens interested in the law will know about the professionals with whom they will associate in this new post, copies of professional resumes/bios of participating adults have been made available to them.
As previously announced, Law Explorer Post 1926 will hold its kickoff organizational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wedneday, May 14, at the law offices of Lewitt, Hackman, Shapiro, Marshall & Harlan, 16633 Ventura Blvd., 11th floor, Encino.
For more information, call 818-990-2120.
Teens, 14-20 years of age, male and female, interested in a law career are invited to attend and join.
Adult volunteers interested in supporting the program of the Law Explorer Post, as it develops, are welcome as well.
Seating is limited. If interested in attending, RSVP to
