Why won't they talk to me?
Contributed by: Shannon Mitchell on 11/5/2007

For the past year, I have been trying to get the word out that I am starting up a cause to get a Christmas Box Angel Statue placed in the San Fernando Valley.

There are more than 150 of these statues all accross the nation placed in memory of children who have passed away. These statues have become a source of comfort to many a grieving family, wheather their child had yet to be born, or had graduated from college.

The two statues in California are too far away for the residents of the San Fernando Valley to enjoy, so I took up the cause to get one placed here.

I took the advice of other statue recipiants and began contacting the media, local clubs, and congressmen to ask for help (not financial) and what I would need to do to make sure this is all leagle. But no one has responded!

I have been ignored by news channles 2, 4, 5 and 11, turned down by five local Kiwanis club chapters, and brushed aside by the 'desk workers' for several of my local congressmen.

I have contacted the head lady for the department of women's affairs, was told she would add it to the agenda of her next meeting, and was promptly forgotten about!

Friends and family have given me other ideas; so per them I have contacted Oprah, Donald Trump, Rosie O'Donnel, Elizabeth Taylor, CHLA, Department of Childrens Services, and so on.

Not a single one of these inquiries has been met with more than a courtesy 'thanks, but no thanks' letter.

The funniest thing is, I am not asking any of these people for money!

I have created and sent a proposal to each entity, describing what my efforts would be to collect funds and all I would like from them is permission to do so. I wouldn't even be asking permission if it didn't involve city property and their own rules dictate that I need their OK!

I am so disheartend! I have lost three of my own children, which is my reason for trying to do this in the first place. Not just in their memory, but for the memory of all children who left this world too soon.
