AGE and TIME
Contributed by: Meg Volk on 2/25/2008

You had to be twenty-one to be able to vote in my time. Later Congress passed a law making eighteen the legal age to vote. After all, if you were drafted to fight at eighteen and possibly lose your life, then you should be able to vote as well.

The age for marriage varies from state to state. Sometimes with parental permission young women can get married as early as 14 or 16. In Utah where polygamy is practiced, age does not matter and incest can and does occur.

Responsibility for having children is a questionable idea. Abortion is also a debatable subject.

Time is needed to think about some of these topics which have come down through the centuries regardless of your age.

That is why I labeled this topic as Age and Time.

Thank you for listening.

I don't believe your facts regarding Utah are correct. Polygamy is practiced throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico depending mainly, I believe, on the religious affiliation in some small communities. Utah has a minimum age requirement for marriage. Incest can and does occur throughout the world. Responsibility without rights is slavery.
