Magdalena Skiff,
known to her family and friends as Lee, was born in 1902, she will be 106 on her birthday May 12. She says "she has no aches and no pains," and her doctor says "amazing"
Her mind is still very sharp and remembers more than most people forget. She walks with a walker now to keep her balance, but still manages to ride the exercise bike every day. In the summer, she exercises in the pool.
She dresses herself, makes her bed every day, enjoys going outside to get the Daily News every morning and the mail in the afternoon.
She enjoys her little shot of whisky before dinner every night. (And don't put water in her whisky, she likes it straight).
She was born and raised on a wheat farm in North Dakota. She was the youngest of six children. Her mother died at the age of 33, the day after she was born.
She moved to San Francisco when she was 20 and married when she was 24. She was married for 65 years and lived in the same house until her husband passed away at the age of 93.
Then she moved to Northridge to live with her daughter and her husband in 1991. She was a homemaker, gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting and crafts were among some of the handy and beautiful things she made.
Eating well-balanced meals with lots of vegetables and fruits, and not overeatinghas always been a priority. She has always exercised. Living in San Francisco without a car and climbing all those hills, and up and down the 17 stairs in her house has kept her very agile.
The key is to keep your mind and your body active. Be good to yourself and you'll be around for a long time. 105 is just a number, you can't think of it as growing old, you have to think of it as staying young.
