Chatsworth seniors have responded favorably to the new local programming in the recreation center at Chatsworth Park South and now plans are in the making to add another day of activities.
Since last September local seniors have gathered on Wednesdays to enjoy coffee and conversation in the mornings, chair exercises, line dancing, power walks and bingo games followed by the city's nutrition program lunches at noon.
Adam Monick, facilities director at the center, began the program with Christian Lutz, program director, and
Jeanie Chung as coordinator of activities.
The program has grown from a few seniors to more than 25 people participating in the lunch program every Wednesday. An advisory board has been formed and plans are underway to add a second day.
Monday's are being considered. The program will also be expanded to include more activities in the morning from 9 a.m. to noon with lunch at 12 p.m.
The lunch program is provided by the Los Angeles City Department of Aging and is served for the minimal price of $1.25 per person.
Participants must be 60 years of age or older and those who cannot afford the amount are not required to pay.
Registration is necessary and interested seniors can apply on Monday or Wednesday mornings at the Center, 22360 Devonshire Street, Chatsworth.
