Suddenly

Suddenly I saw a glorious vision. I turned to my husband and tried to nudge him awake so he could join me in watching the vision.

Then I realized that I had been dreaming and that my husband was not in bed with me. Full consciousness returned as I understood my husband of 47 years had died over 12 years ago.

Memories of my happy marriage flashed before my eyes. Tears washed my eyes as I felt so lonely and alone.

If you have never been lonely and alone, you have no idea of how devastating it can be. Yes, I am grateful for what I had in my life.

Every night I say out loud to myself, "Good night, sweetheart. I love you and I miss you terribly."

He may be gone, but he is never forgotten.
