State Assemblymember
Julia Brownley, 41st district, joined the city of Agoura Hills at a recent council meeting to honor former and current council members as part of the city's silver anniversary celebration.
At the special ceremony, City Manager
Greg Ramirez and State Assemblymember Brownley presented a key to the city to the 17 individuals who have served terms on the city council since incorporation in 1982.
"These are exceptional individuals and today Agoura Hills is a testimonial to their vision and success," said Brownley. She also presented the city a 25th anniversary proclamation from the State Assembly.
From Washington D.C., U.S. Representative
Henry Waxman, 30th district of California, joined in honoring the city during its milestone year through a letter in which he stated, "We owe our gratitude to this community for its contribution to Los Angeles County."
Since 1982, Agoura Hills has grown into one of the most desirable communities in Los Angeles County. The community offers residents state-of-the-art recreational facilities for all ages as well as an architecturally renowned city hall and library; five parks and an equestrian center.
Currently, the city of Agoura Hills staffs 35 full-time employees and approximately 35 part-time individuals to serve the current population of 21,005.
During the ceremony, Mayor
Dan Kuperberg also recognized the city of Agoura Hills Historical Committee:
Carol Rosenberg,
Darlene McBane,
Ed Corridori,
Jack Koenig,
John Hood,
Louise Rishoff,
Joan Yacovane,
Ernie Dynda,
Vicky Leary and
Sally Schneider. The mayor said to the audience, "Because of this group, residents can all learn our city's past while we look toward its future."
Two of the city founders, former state assembly member
Fran Pavely and
Carol Sahm, could not be present at the ceremony. However Sahm sent a statement read by Schneider, who accepted the award on her behalf.
Sahm expressed, "Our first council meetings were at Fran's dining table to establish the city. From there we went on to a conference table, then to an office at the Reyes Adobe Center, and we were on our way."
