Contributed by: Gerald Scott on 8/1/2008

Teenagers who participated in the Community Youth Foundation (CYF) program at the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation) recently presented a check for $4,000 to SOVA food pantries.

SOVA, a program of Jewish Family Service, provides free groceries and other resources to the needy. SOVA's Valley pantry is located at 16439 Vanowen St., Van Nuys.

CYF is a six-week program during which teenagers learn about charitable grant-making, and then determine how to donate $10,000 in grant money to worthy organizations.

Other grant recipients included Village Family Services, a nonprofit providing services for abused and neglected children and teens, $4,000; Inner City Arts, which brings the arts into the lives of inner-city children, $1,000; and Professional Leaders Project, dedicated to increasing recruitment and retention of outstanding Jewish community leaders, $1,000.
