Cell phone numbers go public today! Reminder ...
Contributed by: Ed Crowe on 6/19/2008

All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies tomorrow and you will start to receive sale calls.

YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS.

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone at 888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five years.

You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number. It takes about 20 seconds to complete the process.

Or you can go online and register your number at https://www.donotcall.gov/register/reg.aspx.

Help other by passing this on.

You are probably right. The message was sent to me by a good friend. However, I called the number before I posted the message and it was legit. No harm. No cost. No deadline. I do get calls periodically on my cell from an out of the area company telling me that I have been selected to win ??? How they got my cell number, I don't know. If anything it will help remind people about the new law becoming effective on July 1 about the use of cell phones in the car. Five stars for awareness. There are spam filters for email. Why not the National Do-Not-Call Registry for cell phones. You get five stars for pointing out www.snopes.com. It is the best way to check the truth about any of those forwarded messages we all get on a daily basis. Great job. Thanks for taking the time to write your comment.

Um...are we kidding? While the National Do-Not-Call Registry is a good thing and we should add our cell phone numbers, the above is incredibly the re-posting of an urban legend going around via e-mail for three-plus years. http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/cell411.asp
