Local youth council helps China earthquake victims
Contributed by: Cindy Jouflas on 6/19/2008

The Sichuan earthquake in China on May 12 shocked and saddened Chinese people around the world.

Many young Chinese Americans born and raised in the United States have volunteered to join the earthquake relief efforts.

The San Fernando Valley chapter of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance Youth Council (CACAYC) held a China Earthquake Relief Fundraising Performance on June 1 at the Mandarin Baptist Church of San Fernando Valley (MBCSFV).

Made up mostly of Chinese American students from high schools in the Valley, the local chapter of the CACAYC is dedicated to its mission of creating awareness of Asian-Pacific heritage, fostering and providing leadership opportunities and encouraging the youth to serve the community.

At the event, $10,100 was raised during and immediately after the China Earthquake Relief Fundraising Performance.

The entire amount will be donated to the Chinese Red Cross for earthquake relief through the Chinese Christian Herald Crusades.
