Contributed by: Peter De Santis on 10/29/2008

This year, the Canoga Park Elks Lodge 2190 distributed dictionaries to all third grade students at 25 schools in the local area.

A total of 2,400 dictionaries were distributed under the directions of Elks exalted ruler, Rosemary Blischke, the dictionary chairman, Fred Small, and numerous Elk members.

In addition to the funding from the lodge and its members, donations were received from The Brown Co., Gibraltar Transmission, The Floor Center, Golden Touch Construction, County Club Auto Body, Niels Service Corp., Craig's Auto Repair and Allstate Insurance with Cris Distefano.

All of these local companies are interested in the education of school children.

The 25 elementary schools that received the dictionaries were Andasol, Becford, Calahan, Canoga Park, Cantara, Capistrano, Chatsworth, Darby, El Oro, Fillbright, Garden Grove, Germain, Granada Hills Hills, Hart, Hamlin, Lorne, Nevada, Shirley, Superior, Van Gough, Welby, Blyth, Galt, Reseda and New Castle.

All the students thanked the Elk members and sent thank-you cards.

Thanks to the Elks and all other donors. A love of words and their use is most important in school (and in life). This is the right place and time to start. What a great project!
