Army Reserve Specialist Erik Murillo was recently deployed overseas to a base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Murillo, an information system specialist with eight years of military service, is normally assigned to the 448th Civil Affairs Batallion at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash.

He is the son of Tula Galarza of West Hills and a 1990 graduate of El Camino Real High School in Woodland Hills.

Air Force Airmen 1st Class Corey Carpenter and Keith Williams and Airmen Natalie Carachuri, Matthew Dick, Erick Hernandez and Kenneth Robinson recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Carpenter is the son of Patricia Dillard of North Hollywood.

Williams is a 2003 graduate of Palmdale High School.

A 2005 graduate of Chatsworth High School, Carachuri is the daughter of Jesse Carachuri of Chatsworth and Rosalie Flores of Van Nuys.

Dick is the son of Nancy Jones of Northridge and a 2005 graduate of Sylmar High School.

Hernandez is the son of Sonia Hernandez of Mission Hills and a 2007 graduate of Kennedy High School in Granada Hills.

Robinson is the son of Keven Robinson of Sylmar and a 2003 graduate of Sylmar High School.

Army Pvts. Shane Kirshner, Raul Martinez, Shenada Solomon and Reserve Pvt. Sylvester Wright recently graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Kirshner is the son of Linda Cain of Sunland and a 2006 graduate of Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga.

Martinez is the son of Ana Hernandez of Panorama City.

Solomon is the former ward of Eddie Solomon of Palmdale.

Wright is the son of Mary Wright of North Hollywood.
