More than 61 women veterans were honored at the second annual "Honoring Lady Veterans Tea and Luncheon," sponsored by Chatsworth and San Fernando Valley Chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Chatsworth's
Julie Stranges
and San Fernando Valley's
Deirdra Beller
, were hostesses for the event, which took place at the VA Sepulveda Campus of the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLA).
Members of several DAR chapters from Southern California were in attendance, including State Officer
Barbara Aerni,
District Director
Elizabeth Swanay-O'Neal
, California DAR Service for Veterans Chairman
Christ Gentry
, VAMC Long Beach Voluntary Service Representative
Jennifer Bishop
, VALAMC Voluntary Service Representative and VA Sepulveda Voluntary Service Representative
Barbara Ide
.
Twelve W.A.V.E.S. were reunited, some of whom had lost touch and not seen each other for nearly 20 years. The women represented all departments of the military and war eras from WW II to the Iraq war.
The ladies were served by the Betsy Ross division of the Naval Sea Cadets, an all-female division.
One veteran of both Desert Storm and Iraq was presented a hand-made quilt by Stranges and
James Duvall
, chief of public affairs at GLA, in honor of her service.
The quilt is part of an ongoing project of the San Fernando Valley Quilting Association to present quilts to local Iraq and Afghanistan veterans who have been injured in some way.
A very special plaque of appreciation was presented to Millie Jones, senior deputy for 5th District Supervisor
Mike Antonovich
, to honor his commitment to supporting all of our Veterans.
The ladies enjoyed the day so much that many are already asking for the date of next year's event. We're planning, ladies. And we'll see you all then!

Hey! Julie...Good Story, sorry I missed going, but had other plans. I met you at the Dignity Vietnam Memorial Wall at Valhalla last June. I believe you and I were the only DAR ladies there that volunteered.
