Wedding Industry Marries Charity

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, weddings are a $25.3 billion industry. The good news is that the practice of incorporating charitable donations with weddings has become a very popular trend within all age groups, generating funds for nonprofit organizations in many new forms.

With one-third of all weddings being remarriages, as reported by the Hallmark Press room, many couples are asking guests to make a donation to a particular charity in lieu of a wedding gift. Some brides are replacing the traditional guest favor with a note card or bookmark announcing a donation to their selected charity.

Cards With a Heart, a company that works to raise funds for nonprofits, has partnered with eInvite.com, the leading online stationery retailer, to offer various wedding-related stationery products that include a 10% donation to the couple's charity of choice. Their nonprofit clients, like the Alzheimer's Association, are grateful for the passive fund raising program.

With this new custom becoming more and more popular, nonprofits enjoy the additional benefit of promoting their message to the public in addition to the promise that one wedding could generate a large donation for the organization. Kellie Nicholson, owner of Cards With a Heart says that this type of charitable donation just make "cents!"
