TV's "Bart Simpson" (otherwise known as Honorary Mayor of the North Valley,
Nancy Cartwright
) and
Persia White
, star of the long-running series, "Girlfriends," headline a roster of local dignitaries who will cut the ribbon at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Valley Life Improvement Center's new expanded facilities at 10667 White Oak Avenue, Granada Hills.
Valley Life Improvement Center features a Career Artists Program, designed to help an up and coming or struggling or aspiring singer, actor, writer, director, fine artist, etc isolate the exact factors in his or her life and career that need to be resolved so he or she can be successful.
The Center also is known for its "Teen-YA" (Teens and Young Adults) program which gives focus, direction, and self-worth to young people by focusing on their purposes in life.
"It's amazing how much you can get done by emphasizing what's right about a person, rather than what's wrong," comments Co-Director,
Michael Lewis
. "Even kids who are sullen and hopeless, become more alive and productive when you align their actions with their purposes."
The Center, which is a member of the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce, bases its programs on the works of L. Ron Hubbard, founder of Dianetics and Scientology, who himself was a best-selling fiction writer and award-winning photographer.
Adds
Alison Robinson
, Co-Director of the Center, "We love what we do here. We feel like we are injecting that much more life into the world each time we help someone achieve his or her goals."
