Frances Leola Caleb Stewart celebrated her 100 th birthday on Saturday. Daughter of Clarence and Leola Caleb, she was born in downtown Los Angeles on October 25, 1908.
Moving up and down the coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco during her childhood, she truly is a "California girl". Her one sibling was Edith May Caleb Jones (now deceased). She graduated from Los Angeles High School in February, 1928 and remains best friends with one of her classmates, Millie Behnke (she turned 100 in Aug. this year)."
Frankie" (as she likes to be called) married her husband, Donald Ross Stewart in May 1934 and was blessed with two daughters, Linda and Gail. The couple retired from Sepulveda, CA to Bullhead City, AZ in 1969 and happily celebrated their 50 th wedding anniversary in 1984. Frankie belonged to the Telephone Co. Pioneers and the Bullhead City, AZ, Elks.
Now widowed, Frankie resides in Granada Hills and enjoys visits from nearby family.
Approximately 25 family members and friends came to honor Frankie at her birthday party. Among those attending were her daughters, Gail Daignault and Linda Chamberlin; grand-daughter, Teri Cardenas; and four great grandchildren, Amanda, Melinda, Vanessa, and Alyssa Cardenas.
Witty and fun, Frankie continues to entertain visitors with old storiesfrom her lifetime. Like taking the bus for a nickle all over town, or building the first television on their block and long Sunday rides to the San Fernando Valley, which at that time was farms and open spaces.
