Ellen Rittle turns 100 years old

Long-time North Hollywood resident Ellen Rittle will hit the century mark on Sept. 18, turning 100 years old.

She was born Ellen Bauer in Pennsylvania, where she was raised and later met and married Isaac Rittle.

At age 18, Ellen married Issac. They moved to Wisconsin where their only child, David, was born.

The lure of the west and its temperate climate led them to Southern California.
They bought a house in North Hollywood, which was then considered the suburbs of Los Angeles. Ellen has lived in the same house for 55 years.

Ellen, Isaac and David were a team in everything they did, including operating their own business - Valley Appliance Store on Burbank Boulevard - for more than 40 years.

Sports were a big part of their lives and they were all fans of the Lakers, Dodgers and UCLA Bruins. To this day, if you drop in on Ellen, you will find her watching some kind of sporting event on TV.

She knows the exact scores and histories of many players in a variety of sports, including baseball, golf, football and basketball.

Her favorite sports figures? Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant.

She says her love of sports has helped her live so long.
