Woodland Hills resident Dr.
Tessa Warschaw
was honored at the 2008 YWCA Focus Awards gala dinner held at the Skirball Cultural Center.
Presented each year by the Santa Monica/Westside YWCA, the Focus Awards highlight the contributions made by the honorees and the YMCA to the community of women.
Founder of Big Thinking Women (BTW), Dr. Warschaw is an author, psychotherapist and life coach, with practices in Woodland Hills and West Los Angeles.
Her books include "Rich is Better," "How Women Can Bridge the Gap Between Wanting and Having it All" and the best-selling "Winning by Negotiation."
"I am thrilled to be a recipient of the 2008 Focus Award. The YWCA's mission to empower women and girls is so closely aligned with my personal mission to create a community for women 50-plus to find support, friendship and a place to truly blossom in life's third chapter," Warschaw said. "My mother taught me that it is not what you gather in life, but what you scatter that brings you true happiness. It is very special to be honored for carrying on her tradition."
Dr. Warschaw founded Big Thinking Women in 2003 for women 50-plus who are navigating the transition from youth to wisdom.
Dedicated to redefining age, creating personal legacies and becoming a recognized force politically, socially and economically, BTW held its inaugural 50@50 Los Angeles Awards in November 2007.
Fifty of L.A.'s most accomplished women, age 50 and over, were honored at the first-of-its-kind event.
In addition to Dr. Warschaw, 2008 Focus Awards were presented to Dr.
Lois Lee
, founder and president of Children of the Night;
Liza Bercovici
, founder of everybody dance!; and award-winning grant maker
Dyanne Hayes
