Cub Scout Pack 555, chartered to Delphi Academy in Lake View Terrace, recently awarded five of its Webelos Scouts with Arrow of Light badges, the highest rank awarded in Cub Scouting.

More than 90 family members and friends attended the awards ceremony along with the other Cub Scouts of the Pack. In total, more than 100 awards were given to the Scouts during the course of the evening.

Cubmaster David Jensen presented the coveted Arrow of Light Award to recipients Richard Tegatz of Lake View Terrace, with his parents, Betsy and FritzTegatz; Joshua Kreisberg of Northridge, with his parents, Alicia and Scott Kreisberg; Henry Davis of Glendale with his parents, Chris and Kate Davis, Alec St. Martin of Valencia with his parents, Susana and Mauricio St. Martin, and Alberto Rodriguez of Sunland with his parents, Modesto and Mercedes Rodriguez.

Six Boy Scouts and several executives from Delphi's Boy Scout Troop 555 were there to welcome the graduating Webelos into their troop. The Boy Scouts, who opened the graduation with a flag ceremony, were Bryan Marsh, Caldwell Menschik, Christoph Menschik, Colton Evans, JJ Ferman and Philip St. Martin.

Sharon Marsh
, Andrew Menschik and Sandy Evans were the troop executives there to help welcome the graduating Webelos. Rose Bowl District Representative Andrew Islas was also in attendance to show district support for the pack.

The Arrow of Light Award is based on the Indian sign for the sun over seven rays - this is to remind the Webelos to do their best every day as they follow the arrow that leads to Boy Scouting.

The seven rays represent wisdom, courage, self-control, justice, faith, hope and love. The graduating Webelos lit candles to represent each one of the virtues and then walked over a bridge and were received by the Boy Scouts.

In addition to the Arrow of Light award, the Webelos earned special badges and other recognition.

Richard Tegatz was awarded the Showman and Family Member badges, the South Compass Pin, the Sports pin in Baseball and the Conservation Award.

After receiving their awards, the Webelos presented plaques of appreciation to their leaders Betsy Tegatz and Alicia Kreisberg. Betsy received special recognition as she had taken this group of boys from Wolves all the way through the Arrow of Light; a process that takes several years.

Colby Jensen of Tujunga, the sole Bear in the Pack earned his World Conservation Award, the Leave No Trace Awareness Award and the Outdoor Activity Award.

Nicky Andruscavage of Burbank, Juan Miguel Duran of Simi Valley, Andy Fisher-Shin of Sylmar, Kostas Gieseken of Glendale, Tyler Jensen of Tujunga, Tyler Milford of Sun Valley, and Charlie Tegatz of Lake View Terrace each achieved the rank of Wolf Cub Scout and were awarded the World Conservation Award, the Leave No Trace Awareness Award and the Outdoor Activity Award.

After the Tigers received their awards they presented plaques of appreciation to their leaders David and Shenae Sutter of Sunland and Dynnel Watts of Tujunga.

"These awards are great in and of themselves," said Tracey Andruscavage, Pack Committee Co-Chair. "But what's even better is what they represent. These boys have been able to explore a wide variety of subjects that they might not otherwise have been exposed to. They have done projects to safeguard and improve their environment, families have been strengthened, character is being emphasized and leaders are being made. That's what this program is all about."

The Cubmaster, David Jensen, was given a plaque showing appreciation for his contribution to the Pack. Parents Sanjeev Naikawadi of Montrose, Fritz Tegatz of Lake View Terrace and Committee Member Jennifer Methvin of Burbank received similar plaques of appreciation.

It might be interesting to read the accounts at www.DelphiParents.com to learn why Zen Zielke was unable to attend - it's kind of weird.

I am happy to hear students at this school are doing so well. Both of my daughters graduated from high school there, and I couldn't be prouder.
