Eagle Scouts, John Dettenmaier, Nicholas Foster, and James Kim of Boy Scout Troop 101 were honored at an Eagle Court of Honor on May 12. Troop 101 is sponsored by the Reseda Ward of the Canoga Park California Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

John Dettenmaier is a senior at Canoga Park High School. John is the son of Eric and Rita Dettenmaier of Reseda. His Eagle Project was reseeding Canoga Park High School's football field. The intesive campus use by all students had resulted in a dangerous field exhibiting uneven terrain and holes.

John's project entailed planning, coordinating with Los Angeles Unified School District for approval, developing a landscaping plan, and obtaining grass seed and supplies through donations. Additionally, the field was leveled and prepared for planting. The late December event was very successful with the assistance of 50 volunteers.

John is a scholar athlete in football, basketball, and golf at Canoga Park High School. He is planning on attending Pierce Community Collge in the fall.

Nicholas Foster is the son of Robert and Beverly Foster of Reseda. His Eagle Project was to beautify the city of Reseda. Working with the Reseda Neighborhhod Council, he planned, acquired, and coordinated 50 community volunteers who assisted in planting 2,000 plants on Earth Day, 2006.

The project's success was a combination of hard work from volunteer stakeholders in the community and the Reseda Neighborhood Council's commitment regarding city policy and compliance measures. Three medians were improved along the

Sherman Way corridor between the streets of Corbin and Wilbur.
Nicholas attends Cleveland High School in Reseda where he participates in the wrestling program. He is planning on attending Pierce Community College in the fall and studying film.

James Kim attends North Hollwood High School. His parents are David and Eun Joo Kim of Santa Clarita. James' Eagle Project was to restore Sage Ranch which is a public campsite located in the Santa Monica Mountains.

This was a multi-faceted project involving replacement of the camp information bulletin sign, pouring concrete for the dumpster area and refurbishing the dumpster encasement, plus replaceing a non-working water fountain. James had to work closely with the camp ranger to ensure permits were filed and that the concrete work was to code.

During the three-month process, James reached out to 20 volunteers from school, church, and social organizations as well as friends and family.

James is an outstanding scholar. He is a National AP Scholar, a National Merit semi-finalist, and received the Bank of America Certificate of Achievement in Science Award.

He was a member of the North Hollywood High School's Science Team that won the 2007 regional championship of the National Science Bowl. His team participated in the national finals in Washington, D. C. He will be attending Yale University in the fall.
