Sally and Chet Collom met on a blind date through a mutual friend at Hoover High School in Glendale 62 years ago.
They've been partners ever since, whether through their hobby as art enthusiasts or professionally in the real estate industry.
When they met, Chet was returning from a short tour of duty with the U.S. Navy in Japan. Sally was a junior at Hoover High.
After finishing his duty with the Navy, Chet enrolled in the School of Allied Arts in Glendale, pursuing his ambition as an artist.
After Sally graduated from high school, they got married and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary.
They bought a small lot in Tujunga and had a small house built on it. The house was supposed to be finished by the time they returned from their honeymoon. When they returned, however, the house was not quite done, so they alternated staying with each of their parents for about three months.
Later, they moved to Glendale, where Chet ran a print shop for a greeting card company. He later delivered milk for three years.
After moving to Panorama City, Chet got a job as an illustrator, painting illustrations for magazines, paperback books and movie posters.
Sally was active in the PTA at Ranchito Elementary School, where her two older children, Laurie and Steve, attended. She received the PTA's Lifetime Membership Award for her service.
When their third child, Christi, entered high school, Sally started a real estate career, first working in Panorama City and later moving to an office in Sherman Oaks.
Chet and Sally also opened an art gallery, where Chet taught classes.
When they moved to Chatsworth, they created a studio in their home, so they closed the gallery and moved their students to their new home studio.
The Colloms have been active in many clubs including the Chatsworth Fine Arts Council, California Art Club, Valley Art Association and Valley Watercolor Society.
After Chet retired from illustrating, he joined Sally in her real estate business, working out of their office in Canoga Park.
After 11 years, they sold their company, but stayed on as agents. The company relocated to Chatsworth, where they both are still working.
Sally and Chet, who have five grandchildren, attribute their long and successful married life to solving their problems together and starting each day reading the comics in the Daily News to each other.
