The Life Story Writing classes at Reseda Education and Career Center of the Los Angeles Unified School District now have a comprehensive Website with many fascinating and educational stories organized by topics for convenient reference.
The site is
www.resedacas.net/stories.html.
Stories are posted on this site so that students of all ages can learn about history through the window of personal stories, and for research purposes for historians, writers, other seniors, and other interested readers.
Copying material from this site is permitted for educational purposes.
Stories are organized into the following sections:
- World War II
- Vietnam War
- The Depression
- The Holocaust
- The Immigrant experience
- Daily life in the 1920s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s (includes childhood, teenage, romance, marriage, raising children, having grandchildren, school, city life, rural life, political influences, religion, the arts, food, life as a senior citizen, slice of life stories, then and now stories, jobs, etc.)
- Family history
- Lifelong learning
These stories also impart a great deal of wisdom gleaned from the writers' long and full lives.
This is a generation that knows how to "make something from nothing" whether it's keeping family traditions alive on a less-than-shoestring budget, summoning the grit to survive in wartime, escape a repressive country and start anew in America, or build a life again after the death of a beloved spouse.
These involved and caring seniors serve as a potent example of how to use continuing education to enhance the quality of their own lives while also benefiting the community at large.
