Contributed by: Kids Letters on 4/28/2008

TODAY'S TOPIC: What is your favorite book and why do you like it?

My favorite book is "A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning." It was about Violet, the big sister, her brother, Klaus and her baby sister, Sunny and also the meanest guy ever, Count Olaf, who wanted to marry Violet. My favorite part was when Sunny bit his leg and his hand. I learned that you have to follow the law.
Micaela Gimenez, 10
Lemay Elementary
Van Nuys

The best book I have ever read is "Abby Hayes: Music to My Ears." The thing I like about that book is it is interesting. I learned that you can have a crush for a very long time. The reason I enjoy that book is because it is romantic. My favorite character is Natalie because she is so funny.
Kassandra Rodriguez, 10
Oxnard Street Elementary
North Hollywood

"James and the Giant Peach." My favorite part is when the seed of the giant peach is James' house at the end and because he is happier than living with his two aunts. I learned to never ever give up. It was a very good book!

My favorite bookthat I have ever read is "Number the Stars" by Lois Lowry. I learned from this book that even if a person is different than you, you should still help them. In this book, the main character is Christian and her best friend is Jewish. It is during the Holocaust and the main character helps her friend and her friend's family to stay alive.
Lindsay Dick, 12
Oakwood School

I love to read so it is very hard to choose. But just to make it easier, I am going to do the book I'm reading. But usually I'm reading more than one book at a time but I'm lucky that I just finished my other book. So, that book is "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules." I think it's great because it's funny, humorous and so fun to read! I like the part when the parent finds out about the party! I want to go back to reading! Chow!
Maddie Fowle, 8
Wilbur Elementary
Tarzana

The best book I have ever read is "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." I like it because it is funny. It also has funny characters and pictures. Mostly no other book is as funny as "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." I learned when you're a boy get a journal, instead of a diary.
Debora Soto, 10
Oxnard Street Elementary
North Hollywood

My favorite book is "The Tail of Emily Windsnap." It's about a girl who finds out that she is a mermaid and also that her mother married a merman but the laws under the sea are you can't marry a human. So, he goes to jail. Emily starts looking for her dad and she finds him trapped. She saves him and she finally meets her dad. I learned that I am interested in mystery books.
Melissa Saavedra, 10
Lemay Elementary
Van Nuys

My favorite book series is the "Harry Potter" series. Even though it was fiction and fantasy, I learned something from it. I learned how to use my imagination. If not for J.K. Rowling and her outstanding series, I would not have known how to write properly . This series of books helped me start my first book by showing the writing technique of a true writer. Therefore, "Harry Potter" is my favorite series and it taught me something that I will use for the rest of my life.
Nicholas Sparks, 11
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

My favorite book is "The Lightning Thief." It's about a boy who discovers his father is Poseidon. I like the mythology in it. Just because two people don't get along, you can still settle things.
Edrick Sabalburo, 9
Sacred Heart School
Lancaster

I have many favorite books, some of which are famous pieces of English literature and some of which are younger books. But my favorite book is a novel called "Wild Man Island." It is a book about a boy who goes on a kayaking trip and goes astray from the group and finds himself on the same island that his father died on. It is a mystery-adventure. I don't usually like mysteries but I really liked it because of its obscurity.
Gabe Rudolph, 12
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

My favorite book is "A Cheese-Colored Camper." I liked it when they were camping because it's fun. Never go camping by yourself.
Nicholas Arrieta, 9
Sacred Heart School
Lancaster

My favorite book is "Junie B. Jones and the Yucky Blucky Fruitcake." The thing that I like is that it is funny. My favorite character is Junie B. Jones. The lesson I learned is to look at a recipe or you will have a big mess.
Brittany Legier, 9
Sacred Heart School
Lancaster

My favorite books are the fictional "Silverwing" series books by Kenneth Oppel. Although set in a world based on animals, the books deal with human problems such as isolation, uncertainty and jealousy. They are superbly written and, unfortunately, there are a mere four books in the series. This is a shame as the books are well written and suspenseful and my time reading them was time well spent.
