What are your New Year's resolutions?
Contributed by: Kids Letters on 1/8/2008

TODAY'S TOPIC: Your New Year's resolutions.

A New Year's resolution is something that you say like "I'm going to be a better person this year" or "I am going to change my ways." The resolution I would make is I'm not going to be mean to my sisters and I will ask God to forgive all my sins so I become a better person.
Nayelli Mejia, 9
Township Elementary
Simi Valley

Having a new year is great because it's a time for new changes and it's just a new year. Most importantly are the ew Year's resolutions. Every year I make a new one and this year my New Year's resolution is not to spend too much time on the computer and watching TV, but to read more books and focus on my schoolwork. I think that children now are watching too much TV and being on the computer, so I'm going to change that by doing a little less of it.
Danielle Dinstman, 11
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

3-2-1 Happy New Year! A resolution is when you want to make new plans like work more, travel more or whatever you want to do. You can make it whatever you want. My resolutions are to speak slower, read a little more and calm down. I can get a little over the hand sometimes. Well, most of the time.
Morgan Kaiser, 10
Live Oak Elementary
Castaic

A resolution is something you want to make better. My resolution is to get better grades and listen the first time. Also, I want to make better choices, be nice, get stronger and make new friends.
Tyler Miura, 10
Live Oak Elementary
Castaic

My resolution will be that I will be a better person, nice, cute and funny. I would try to be a better person, a girl who will be friends with everybody.
Cindy Torres, 9
Township Elementary
Simi Valley

In the past ,my New Year's resolutions were ones such as to be a kinder person to my sister or to not tell secrets and gossip. But because I have reached my goal and done what I have asked myself to do in the past years, I think I am ready for another challenge. My New Year's resolution this year is to not put things off and just face them as quickly as possible so that they will be soon over with. Usually when I have something important, such as homework to do, I can get distracted quite easily. I want to be able to set a high goal, be able to face it and then get it done with dignity and confidence. And if this routine doesn't happen, I soon have a time management issue, since I let everything sit to the side. I run out of time to do a great job. So, my resolution this year should help me managing my time, setting goals and getting what is required done. Hopefully, it will be another successful one!

My New Year's resolution is to write neater because my writing is unreadable. A resolution is a solution you think of to help you.
Gareth Lloyd, 10

This year I'll do better at school and I'll make a perfect Daily News sentence better than my other ones. I'll also do better at my house. I'll be nicer to my brother and grandmom. I'll help my mom clean and do my bed from now on, not my aunt.
Brianna Murillo, 8
Fernangeles Elementary
Sun Valley

I will promise my parents that I will do better and work hard in school. I will also promise to do my chores every day. Every day I will promise my teacher to practice my multiplication.
Bianca Carrillo, 8
Fernangeles Elementary
Sun Valley

My New Year's resolution this year is to do more community service. This is because I think that it is very important to do something in the community. Just like Hillary Clinton said, "It takes a village to raise a family." So, we all need to pitch in and help. There have also recently been many global warming scares and I think anything you can do to help, even pick up trash, would help.
Julia Haft, 12
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

My New Year's resolution is that I want to be a better son and a better student for my mother and teacher. I would also like to get my red belt in karate this year. I hope I achieve at least one of these things in my new year.
Nicholas Sparks, 11
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

A resolution is kind of a wish you make on New Year's about something you want to change in your life. My New Year's resolution is to become better in social studies because I have never been good at social studies and on my last social studies test, I did not do so good.
Alexandra Fajardo, 10
Live Oak Elementary
Castaic

My New Year's resolution for 2008 is to be more active. Although it is always nice to sit on my couch and watch TV or to go to the computer, I think that I want to be more active this year. Whenever I am done with my homework and just hanging out, I will go outside and play basketball with my sisters or I will walk my dog.
Lindsay Dick, 12
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

My New Year's resolution is to organize my time especially when I'm doing homework. I get a little overwhelmed because I don't organize very well. My teacher does give me time management but I don't follow it. This year I'm going to try harder because it won't only help me, it will help my parents as well.
Monique Green, 11
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

What I want to change about me this year is I want to get good grades in math, vocabulary and reading. I want to get like a four, a hundred percent or a five. I want that because I want my parents to be proud of me, so I can get a good job and be a librarian.
Melissa Alvarado, 8
Fernangeles Elementary
Sun Valley

A resolution is a promise people make at the beginning of the New Year. For example, "I'll lose more weight" or "Sell my house." One of my resolutions this year will be to help my dad with our ditch-of-a-backyard. We need to fill it up with dirt. Another resolution for me is to eat as much as I can. Yet another resolution for me is to not get sick. My biggest resolution is to remember to give my animals some love in the morning.
Leilani Toone, 9
Township Elementary
Simi Valley

My New Year's resolution is to not fight with my younger sister as much as I do now. We tend to get into fights over a lot of silly, worthless things. It makes my whole family go nuts. I think that if my sister and I stop fighting, we can enjoy being sisters and friends, more importantly. It would make our whole family closer.
Maddie Schiff, 11
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

A resolution is a goal that you want to achieve on New Year's. My resolution is to do better on helping my mom more so she isn't stressed on everything I do.
Cameron Haislip, 11
Live Oak Elementary
Castaic

In the new year I'll do good in school in math, language and writing and I will clean my room.
Anthony Ibarra, 8
Fernangeles Elementary
Sun Valley

My New Year's resolution is to be a better brother. I have younger twin brothers and, as I have learned, I am the role model. I have had my ups and downs with them and I hope to fix all those downs this year. Though I don't quite see it yet, as my mom has told me, they will be my best friends when I am older. Someday I will believe her and I will be a better brother automatically. But for now, it is something I have to work on until that moment of realization.
Bradley Freeman, 11
Oakwood School
North Hollywood

A resolution is something you want to change. My resolution is to be taller because when you are small you can't go on roller coasters and if you're in a crowd, you can barely see! I need a stool to reach the microwave. I know how to be taller. I have to exercise! But I don't!
Ryan Del Poso, 10
Live Oak Elementary
Castaic

I would like to do more chores around the house. Also, I would like to help my brothers with their homework more. Maybe I would help my dad cook more often.
Chris Martinez, 8
Fernangeles Elementary
Sun Valley

A resolution is something you want to do, like if you want to start running more often or going to the gym more. My resolution is to be nicer to my sisters and spend more time with my little cousin. I'll play with my cats and dogs more, too. I will be so happy and they will, too.
Ajah Harrison, 10
Live Oak Elementary
Castaic

A New Year's resolution can be forgotten or help change you for the better. My New Year's resolution would be to do at least two hours of community service a month. Community service can make an enormous effect on the world around us and I would like to be a part of it.
Connor Resnick, 11
Oakwood School
North Hollywood
