It's hard to pinpoint which senses were touched to attract the seemingly endless stream of visitors to this year's Fall Festival at Riverside Drive Elementary School.
It may have been the bright starbursts, air-generated decorations that streamed over 20 feet into the air, or colorful carnival games and bouncies calling out to those far and wide. It may have been the angelic singing of kindergartners performing their Halloween songs or the rocking tunes belted out by the older student artiste population. It also could have arguably been the delightful aroma of everything savory and sweet offered to those with palates waiting to be satisfied.
Whatever the reason, it was enough to draw more than 500 families and local supporters including Councilmember
Wendy Greuel
, Deputy
Joan Pelico
of the LA City Council, and Superintendent
Jim Morris
from LAUSD District II to the school's third annual Fall Festival in Sherman Oaks on Saturday, Oct. 28.
While the event focused on games, live entertainment, silent auction and various raffle drawings, its underlying goal was not forgotten. The Fall Festival is the school's primary means of raising funds to fill gaps created by state education budget cuts for student educational enrichment programs.
Proceeds from this event will support physical education, music, arts, a computer lab, the afterschool Homework Club, Super School, Parent Speaker Series and the Wonder of Reading Library. Based on the strong showing the school received from the families and community at large, the future looks promising for the children of Riverside Drive.
