This year's Granada Hills Holiday Parade features a frequent guest in Valley living rooms: none other than Emmy Award-winning actress, Nancy Cartwright, best known as the voice of Bart Simpson, the spike-headed underachiever of The Simpsons TV show. Ms. Cartwright, who has voiced a plethora of popular characters through a voice-over career of nearly three decades, will ride through the Parade as Grand Marshall.
The Granada Hills Holiday Parade, which takes place on Sunday December 7
th from 1:30 to 3:45, is sponsored by the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Councilman Greig Smith and is the largest holiday parade celebration in the San Fernando Valley. The Parade features over 120 official entries, about four thousand youth participants, and is viewed by an estimated crowd of ten to fifteen thousand spectators along the two mile parade route on Chatsworth Street. Attendees can thrill to the award winning marching bands, drill teams, youth groups, antique automobiles, and motorized floats, as well as service club organizations, novelty entries, festive and colorful equestrian units and. . .Santa Claus!
The parade over which Ms. Cartwright presides has special significance, not only for its theme: "Favorite Holiday Movies," but also because it marks the silver anniversary 25th Annual Holiday March through the heart of downtown Granada Hills.
While best known for her work at the microphone, Cartwright actively supports many nonprofit organizations that benefit children, including Famous Fone Friends, Make-a-Wish Foundation, The Way To Happiness Foundation and the PALS. She is also the Honorary Mayor of the North San Fernando Valley and the co-founder of her own non-profit, Happy House, an organization dedicated to Building Better Families.
