Animal Naming Program Perfect Gift
for the Person Who Has Everything

Unique "Adopt" An Animal Program Great Gift Idea
in Range of Prices

Proceeds from Both Support Programs for
Threatened/Endangered Species and Wildlife Preservation Projects

The Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA), a private, non-profit organization that supports the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens, offers two unusual gift-giving ideas this holiday season for animal lovers.

FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS EVERYTHING, GLAZA's one-of-a-kind opportunity to name a Zoo animal allows the gift recipient to develop a connection with a specific Zoo resident by selecting a name. This program includes not only an official certificate and photograph but also a commemorative plaque presentation ceremony and VIP tour, with a visit from the animal's care staff. As a bonus, the gift giver's donation supports the Zoo's animal acquisition fund, which promotes vital wildlife preservation and breeding projects here and around the world. Recently named animals by donors or gift-givers to this program include an orangutan, two snow leopards, a Sumatran tiger, a Masai giraffe, two flamingos and the Zoo's newest baby gorilla, Glenda. The program ranges from $1,000 to $50,000, depending on the animal.

EQUALLY ORIGINAL, "ADOPT" AN ANIMAL OFFERS A WIDER RANGE OF PRICES for the opportunity to become an "adoptive" parent to one of the Zoo's treasured animals while helping to protect and preserve endangered species. (ADOPT is an acronym for Animals Depend on People, Too.) Gift recipients choose a favorite at the Zoo from a group of species that are threatened or endangered, and they are then designated a guardian of that species at the Los Angeles Zoo for one year. They'll receive a personalized adoption certificate and unique animal fact sheet with a photo of their animal ambassador. One-of-a-kind benefits are available at various levels, including a customized, docent-led Zoo cart tour. As a bonus, the gift giver's donation helps the Zoo participate in more than 50 international conservation programs that help endangered species. Prices range from $35 to $1,000, depending on the benefit level.

The year 2008 marks more than four decades of GLAZA's success in supporting the Los Angeles Zoo's work as an educational resource for the citizens of Los Angeles, and as an international center for the conservation of endangered wildlife. GLAZA provides support for Los Angeles Zoo exhibits, conservation, capital projects, education programs, community outreach, research, and more through fund-raising and an endowment, membership, special events and more. GLAZA currently has 65,000 member households, the second largest non-profit organization membership in Los Angeles. Many of its nearly 300,000 individual members have sustained their GLAZA support for more than 20 years. The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is an international leader in the conservation of endangered species and one of the city's major cultural and entertainment resources..
