Los Angeles Council President
Eric Garcetti and Councilman
Tom LaBonge announced on Oct. 16, an impossible task - to continue and revive the Hollywood Christmas Parade, now called the Hollywood Santa Parade.
The annual event, which will be held on Sunday, Nov. 25, was saved from funds paid to continue this holiday annual tradition from both council members.
"I'm proud to maintain one of Hollywood's favorite traditions - Santa's parade down our famed boulevard. After they're done with Thanksgiving turkey, I want everyone in Los Angeles to bring their families to Hollywood to kick off the holiday season," said Garcetti, whose district includes parts of Hollywood.
Earlier this year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced that it would no longer produce the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade.
Council members Garcetti and LaBonge quickly worked to ensure the parade - now in its 76th year - could continue. Hollywood's Santa Parade LLC has been contracted by the City of Los Angeles to produce the event, according to a press release.
"We're excited to see that wonderful Hollywood holiday tradition continue," said Councilmember LaBonge. "This is a great occasion to bring family and friends together as we mark the start of the Christmas season."
The parade is free and open to the public. Grandstand seats are available for purchase at $35 by calling 1-866-PARADE1. Spectators are strongly encouraged to Go Metro to Hollywood and Highland.
The Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, located at Hollywood & Highland, is serving as the official parade hotel.
So, friends and neighbors gather up your families and support this rich holiday tradition.
The parade will be telecast on KTLA-5.
