The East Valley Multipurpose Senior Center will present "Connect the Dots - Diabetes and Your Heart: How Medicare Helps" at noon Tuesday, June 24, to discuss diagnosis, management and treatment options and the Medicare prevention and screening benefits that many people with Medicare are unaware of and are not using.
"There are startling estimates about the numbers of seniors with diabetes or pre-diabetes who are not aware of their condition," said
Scott Parkin, vice president of communications at the National Council on Aging. "We know that hypertension is a 'silent epidemic' and we know that these conditions are commonly found together. This all points to the need to educate seniors and inform them about the relevant Medicare benefits that help them live healthier lives."
This program is aimed at helping seniors, caregivers and the professionals who care for them understand the risk factors for diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure) as well as the links between them.
The program will include a presentation by a diabetes educator and a Medicare representative about Medicare benefits that make it possible for eligible seniors to screen for, prevent, delay, treat, and manage these conditions.
A CVS pharmacist will be talk about medicine adherence and compliance.
This educational program will be held in the Hesby Dining Center at theEast Valley Multipurpose Senior Center,11640 Hesby St., North Hollywood.
