The inaugural Mid-Valley 5K Run and 3K Walk for Public Education will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.
The course is fast and flat, taking runners in and around the North Hills community. The race will start and finish at Our Community School, located at 16514 Nordhoff St. in North Hills.
Our Community School, a LAUSD public charter school (K-6), is hosting the Mid-Valley 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds raised from the race will go to help support the school's health and fitness programs, technology and arts programming.
The school gives parents in the San Fernando Valley an alternative to the traditional public school while providing students a rigorous curriculum attentive to individual needs.
At Our Community School, students develop a lifelong love of learning in small, democratic classes, wherein they create codes of conduct, develop and vote on rules to address ongoing classroom issues and provide peer support.
Those who want to participate in the 5K Run or 3K Walk can pick up a registration form at Runnergy, located at 13541 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks or register online at
www.active.com
.
Feee is $30. A Kids Dash will also be held the day of the race.
Prizes will be given for the top male and female finisher with medals going to the top three finishers in each age group. Anybody who breaks their 5K personal best at the Mid-Valley 5K Run will automatically be entered into a special drawing for a Nintendo Wii, sponsored by Farmers Insurance - Ivan Rodriguez Agency.
The race is sponsored by Our Community School, the North Hills West Neighborhood Council, California Credit Union, Runnergy, Farmers Insurance -The Ivan Rodriguez Agency and 5 Speed Running.
