San Fernando Valley Curves women's fitness centers have joined Curves worldwide in the Curves/Avon Fitness Study. Slated as the largest fitness study in the world, clubs are accepting participants to the 30-day exercise study through June 20.
"The study is rapidly coming to an end. We are only accepting participants through June 20," says Diane Boyd, owner of the Curves in Encino. "Plus, the 30-day workout will give you a jump start on summer."
Approximately 200,000 women are anticipated to take part in the study. The results will be tallied and reported to Curves by mid August for publication in fall.
The purpose of the fitness study is to evaluate the benefits of regular exercise and weight management, examine the factors keeping women from regular exercise, and to analyze whether women adhere to regular exercise and weight management after the 30-day program.
Participants must be willing to commit to exercising three days per week for 30 days on the regular Curves 30-minute workout program. Participants enter their information about themselves including weight, body fat and blood pressure online at the beginning of the study and again at the end of the 30 days.
"Women who have already completed their 30-day program have reported increased energy and an overall feeling of well being," says Boyd. "They have lost an average of three to five pounds and 1 to 1.5 percent body fat. They've also seen a decrease in their blood pressure and resting heart rate."
Participants will also receive a 30-day free trial of the new Curves Complete, an online weight management program, to help them during the study.
Cost to participate is $30. For a Curves location near you, go online to
