My best friend,
Kelsey Forcier
, has always been someone who does what she wants when she wants.
A few weeks ago, she approached me with an (what seemed to be) insane idea. She told me that she wanted to completely chop off her long beautiful hair.
Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal, but her hair was the envy of most women including myself. Kelsey had the most beautiful, long, thick, healthy, shiny, red hair you could possibly imagine.
So this idea of hers came as quite the shock. After delivering this crazy idea, Kelsey gave an explanation. Kelsey said she was to cut off her long hair and give it to her close friend
Sue Michelson
, who as been diagnosed with breast cancer and has been undergoing intense treatment, resulting in her hair loss.
After Kelsey explained herself, this didn't seem like such a bad idea after all. I was not only touched by this, but extremely proud at her desperation to help her friend.
The build-up to the day she would cut her hair was no joke. I was more nervous than Kelsey for her hair to be cut. On June 5, we took the trip to the salon. Accompanied by Sue, Kelsey's mom, boyfriend, and me, of course, Kelsey chopped her beautiful locks.
Proud and humbled by Kelsey's selfless act, I decided I wanted to let other people know about her good deed. Her hair was her signature look and it took two years for her to grow, it was her pride and self-esteem, but she was more than willing to let it go for a friend.
No matter how many people (including myself) tried to convince her not to cut it, she did, proving that if Kelsey wants to do something, she will do it.
