The odds were 1 in 983,000, but
Richard
and
Cassandra
Fisher of West Hills beat them. They had triplets with no in-vitro procedures and no history of multiple births in their families.
Their identical triplet sons -
Christian
,
Connor
and
Cole
- were all born healthy at Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center on July 27 and are doing fine.
The boys were conceived over the holidays while the Fishers were visiting Cassandra's family in Ohio. It was a stop on their move from North Carolina to California, where Richard was about to start a new job as vice president of sales for a security label company.
At 15 weeks, the Fishers were going in for a routine ultra-sound procedure to see if they were going to have a boy or a girl. But the ultra-sound showed they were going to have three babies.
"I was practically hyperventilating," Cassandra said. "We were both in shock."
Six weeks before she gave birth, Cassandra was put on bed rest at the hospital.
"The medication I was on made me tired, so I slept a lot," Cassandra said. "Plus, I watched TV and read a lot."
The boys arrived at 32 weeks. Connor was the biggest at 4 pounds, 12 ounces, followed by Christian at 4 pounds, 4 ounces, Richard said. They stayed at the hospital for six weeks, coming home Sept. 5.
Cole was the smallest at 2 pounds, 10 ounces. He had to stay at the hospital a little longer and arrived home on Sept. 14.
Life has changed a lot for the Fishers. Because they're new to the area and their family and friends all live in Ohio and North Carolina, Cassandra has been taking care of Connor and Christian almost single-handedly during the day and Richard has been lending a hand at night.
Now that Cole will be joining them, things will undoubtedly get even more hectic, but they are happy with their new, larger-than-expected family.
