An amazing story of giving
Contributed by: Wendy Abrams on 4/20/2007

On March 30, 2007 Moorpark College student Ashley Sherman, 19, and her friend College of the Canyons student Taylor Smith, 20, went to Beloxi Mississippi to help build and repair homes.

Having a choice of other things to do while on their spring break, they thought that their time was better spent helping people who needed their help. While they were there, they painted, scraped, removed mold from the houses and did just about everything to help get these homes rebuilt.

The girls had to pay their own way to get there, but while they were there, they slept in barrack-type sleeping quarters and made meals for 140 people. It was an experience of a lifetime and we are very proud of them and have been inspired by them. We hope that these two role models will inspire other young adults to do the same.
