Hiral Bhakta/Barbara Leigh at Sylmar Woman's Club

At the October meeting of the Sylmar Woman's Club, Sylmar Neighborhood Council board member Hiral Bhakta invited veterans of all wars to march in the community's Veteran's Day Parade.

Then entertainer Barbara Leigh made a unique presentation of her family story, combining song, history and humor. She has showcased at numerous social clubs, senior centers, convalescent and retirement communities. Leigh is available to combine your family stories on video and CDs.

The next club meeting will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the Odyssey Restaurant in Granada Hills. The topic will be "Gratefulness," in anticipation of Thanksgiving.

The Sylmar Woman's Club's primary purpose is the awarding of scholarships to Sylmar High School and L.A. Mission College students.

Last year, $14,000 was awarded in such scholarships!

New members are most welcome and may call the Odyssey for reservations.

Mary is integral part of the Sylmar Woman's Club. Her stories are always informative. I appreciate her hard work on the behalf of SWC. Thank you Mary.
