About two years ago
Don Foxen, a 56-year-old father of two girls and patient with Multiple Sclerosis residing at Chatsworth Park Health Care Center, proclaimed that he wanted to do something for children who are fighting cancer.
After some research, with the help of the nursing home staff, Don began growing his locks with the intention that he would donate them to Locks of Love, an organization that creates wigs from donated human hair for children who have lost their hair due to chemo therapy treatments.
Don chose Valentine's Day 2008 as his target date because it is a day to give love.
On Thursday Feb. 14, the day finally came and Don's 12-inch pony tail was lovingly removed by
Ellen Johnson, a local hair dresser who donated her time to make Don's dream a reality.
The whole facility was a buzz in anticipation and support for Don. Staff and residents were dressed in red, flowers and candies were delivered, photos were being snapped, the Valentine's Day King and Queen were crowned and everyone was in the spirit of love.
The locks have been prepared for transport and now Don is parading around showing the staff, residents and visitors his new look.
Don is dependent on staff for his every need as he is not able to walk, turn over himself or use his arms. And today, this special day, we have all learned that no matter how little you think that you have to give, there is always enough love to share.
