Mirrors of the Soul Radio
Contributed by: Pam Vetter on 11/5/2007

Dr. Beth Erickson's goal sounds big, until you talk to her. Somehow, she makes it seem possible.

"I want to change the world. By empowering listeners through inspirational stories, I want to contribute to the spiritual lives of people around the world," Erickson explained.

"I want to help people experience a presence of the Divine in their lives."

Erickson hosts a radio show, "Mirrors of the Soul," through Linda MacKenzie's all-positive Huntington Beach studios at www.healthylife.net. It is a radio show available on the Internet which is heard by 650,000 to 850,000 listeners a month in 104 countries.

"I showcase ideas, people, and inspiration. I interviewed two guys in their late 20s who were both relationship phobic. They climbed into their recreational vehicle and interviewed 100 couples who had been married for forty years or longer," Erickson said. "The project changed them and they wrote the book, 'Project Everlasting.'"

Every show has an interesting angle that empowers listeners.

"I interviewed a man who was homeless and he was given a piggy bank by a five-year-old boy. That moment of giving inspired him to start a program for the homeless in Kansas City, Mo.," Erickson said.

"Another man volunteerred to go into the juvenile prison system to share the idea that writing can be a way to make a living. These inmates were all seirous felons if they had been adults.

He was inspired to help them find a way to turn themselves around. He created a program called 'Lost Voices,' and now goes into the prison system to help kids write poetry. People who care can do anything."

"My goal is to inspire people to believe that the human spirit is indominatable. Personally, I went through four deaths in four and a half years. The only reason I was able to go through that was because God and I are cool. It was a harrowing experience, but I had faith."

Erickson's show is spiritual, but not religious.

"I had my senior pastor on my show, but we didn't talk religion. We talked about developing faith and the role of pain in developing faith. I'm a Christian, but I don't impose that on my listeners. I personally believe if you don't belong to an organized religion, you lose something. There's something important in worshipping together. Subscribing to a set of beliefs means something to people who do," Erickson said.

"So many people are clueless about the Bible. It is a form of literature. Spirituality offers the greatest elements of building internal strength. In organized religion, so many people think they have the way, the truth, and the life, but I'm about as liberal as you get and still attend organized religion. For some people, it's one way for salvation. But, so many ghastly things have been done in the name of religion. My show is about all things spiritual, inspirational, and the indominatibility of the human spirit. Amazing things come from inspiration!"

Erickson can be heard on www.MirrorsoftheSoul.comon Thursdays 2 - 3 pm Pacific time.
