Solution to pollution
Contributed by: Meg Volk on 9/14/2007

It is a well-known fact that the thin plastic bags used in grocery stores are not biodegradable. There is no need to waste paper also.

The plastic bags often wind up on the street, are blown up into trees by the wind, kill birds and animals that try to ingest them. All this occurs because people are careless or uncaring.

Are you aware of the fact that Ralph's grocery stores sells cotton/canvas bags and issues a .05 refund when they are used to pack groceries? How's market sells cotton/canvas bags, but do not issue any refund when they are used.

My suggestion is that you do away with all such plastic bags. Many companies issue cotton/canvas bags with their logo on same. Why not have all grocery stores issue a .05 refund on ANY cotton/canvas sacks that are used to hold groceries!

As a matter of fact, I know from personal experience that when one is abroad, one has to bring one's own container for groceries or pay for whatever the stores provide.

Surely with all the brainpower in the United States, we should be setting the proper example!

As I said before, many people are careless and uncaring.

Well, I CARE.
