The City of Calabasas held its annual Creek Clean-up, which attracted approximately 100 volunteers over the two-day event, including Mayor Bozajian, Councilmember
Dennis Washburn and Environmental Commissioner
Michael Friedman. High school students and members from the Congregation Or Ami lent a helping hand to pick up litter as did many other families from the community with their young ones in tow.
Although many scraps of trash and empty bottles and cans were picked up, the highlight of the event was the removal of an abandoned 1963 Ford from the creek flowing behind A.E. Wright Middle School on Las Virgenes Rd. The car was completely rusted over, and the forces of the removal managed to twist and contort the entire body of the car into an unrecognizable mass of metal. What remains of the car is currently on display on Lost Hills Rd and Meadow Creek Lane, and will eventually be hauled off to a scrap metal recycling center. The help received from Sierra Towing and Transport Inc. was crucial in removing the car frame from the creek.
The Creek Clean-up was sponsored by the City of Calabasas, Keep California Beautiful, Ralph's Supermarket, Starbucks Coffee, and Western Bagel.
