Your Own Sky Productions and Actors Forum Theatre present the Tony Award-winning "The Belle of Amherst", playwright
William Luce's stunning theatrical event based on the life and poetry of
Emily Dickinson, directed by
Tony Sears and performed by
Kate Randolph Burns.
"The Belle of Amherst" will preview Friday, Sept. 5, and Saturday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m., and will open Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. and continue through Sunday, Oct. 12, at the Actors Forum Theatre, 10655 Magnolia Blvd. in the NoHo Arts District.
Time magazine remarks that "The Belle of Amherst" is "an intrepid exploration of the heart, mind and soul". The New York Post comments, "Emily Dickinson's private life, thoughts and dreams and her poetic genius have been strikingly and movingly captured by William Luce..."
"The Belle of Amherst" is "...a love affair with language, a celebration of all that is beautiful and poignant in life." This deeply moving and surprisingly humorous one-person play in which 15 characters interact with Miss Emily, shares with the audience the "inner drama of a poet's inner consciousness in an intimate one-to-one relationship....and the theater seems a thoroughly appropriate setting for Emily's life and art, enabling actress and audience to 'climb the Bars of Ecstasy' together. As it turns out, shy Miss Emily was writing for the theater as surely as she breathed!"
After the opening night performance at the Actors Forum Theatre, there will be a catered Cream Tea Reception with 'Miss Emily."
There will be a special NoHo Scene Festival matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5.
Ticket prices are $15 for previews, $45 for opening night and tea reception, $25 for adults for regular performances and $18 for students, seniors and union memers with ID for regular performances.
The play's material appropriate for audience members 10 and older.
