The Pacoima Singers Musical Theater Group from Pacoima Middle School, who last month swept all the awards in their category at the Five-Six-Seven-Eight Show Concert Competition at Disney's California Adventure, has done it again.
On Saturday, May 17, the Pacoima Singers participated in the Music in the Parks at Valencia High, with the awards ceremony later that day at Magic Mountain.
Again, the singers won the top award in every category in which they were eligible. They were chosen as Best Middle School Show Choir and Best Overall Middle School Vocal Group.
In addition, the group was chosen as the winner of the Esprit de Corps Award.
This prestigious award is not about the best performance, but rather, is awarded to the most professional group, both on and off the stage, from all the middle school and high school groups, both instrumental and vocal.
As it was put at the awards ceremony, "This award goes to the school that has demonstrated the most professionalism both on and off the stage. It is the group whose kids best represent their school, their teachers, their community and their parents."
In addition,
Catalina Mullis
, an eighth-grader at Pacoima Middle School, was chosen as best overall vocalist from among all the groups, both high school and middle school.
The Pacoima Singers' next competition will be the weekend of May 23-25 when they will travel to Vancouver, British Columbia, to compete in a music festival.
Pacoima Middle School is a television, theater and performing arts magnet with programs in musical theater, dance, drama, tv/film production and stagecraft.
The Pacoima Singers Musical Theater Group is made up of a group of seventh- and eighth-graders and is under the direction of Dr.
Scott Mandel
