In response to the growing threat of identity theft and consumer fraud, State Sen.
Alex Padilla and Los Angeles City Councilmember
Dennis Zine are teaming up to educate residents about the dangers of consumer scams.
Padilla and Zine will host a Consumer Scam Stopper seminar at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in the community room of the West Valley Community Police Station, 19020 Vanowen St., Reseda.
The seminar will bring together representatives from various state departments and local law enforcement to speak about consumer scams.
Officials from the Los Angeles Police Department, the Contractors State License Board, Bureau of Automotive Repair and the California Public Utilities Commission, among others, will address residents and provide information on how to recognize and report consumer scams and how to prevent becoming a victim.
The event is free to the public. Local residents of the San Fernando Valley are encouraged to attend.
The event will include discussions about consumer scams, including foreclosure scams, home improvement scams, insurance scams and telecommunication scams.
