What:
Cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones are invited to participate in a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course offered by The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Mondays, Sept. 22 through Nov. 10, at 530 Hampshire Road, Westlake Village.
In addition to the eight Monday classes, an all-day class will be held on Nov. 8.
Please RSVP by calling 805-379-4777.
Based on best-selling author
Jon Kabat-Zinn
's program at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and described in his book "Full Catastrophe Living," the course combines meditation, gentle yoga, readings and group discussion.
The course is free to people affected by cancer and their loved ones by The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura.
"Participating in this course has been a profound often life-changing experience for many people with cancer and their loved ones," said Program Director
Marty Nason
. "It helps them live in the moment, get in touch with their inner wisdom, and find a sense of peace - all of which contribute to their quality of life."
Instructor
Catherine Baum
has studied with Dr. Kabat-Zinn and teaches the Stress Reduction Program at a variety of locations. She has also taught and practiced Hatha yoga for a number of years.
Founded in 1982, The Wellness Community is an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones at more than 100 locations worldwide including 24 U.S.-based and two international centers with 73 satellite and off-site programs.
Through participation in professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, nutrition and exercise programs, and stress-reduction classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of their disease.
As a local chapter, The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura serves more than 2,000residents affected by cancer each year.
