The Friends of the Sylmar Branch of Los Angeles Public Library will hold a book sale from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Sylmar Branch Library, 14561 Polk St.
The library is located on the corner of Polk and Glenoaks Boulevard. From the210 Freeway, exit Polk Street, then south to Glenoaks.
Members of the Friends organization have the opportunity to attend a preview sale from 3-5 p.m. Friday,Aug. 15. Individual membership is $5 per year. You may join at the door if you wish to attend the preview sale.
All the books donated to the library are sorted and then displayed by category to make shopping easy. Subjects available range from novels, science fiction and mystery to history, cooking, literature and self-help. All books are lightly used with many in like-new condition.
Pricing will allow you to stock up for your summer reading.
Hard-cover books are $1, soft-cover books are 50 cents, videos are 50 cents, DVDs and audio books are $1 and children's books are 10 cents.
The "Featured Sale" during May is that paperback books are 25 cents during the Friday preview sale and until noon on Saturday.
There will be more than 5,000 books for sale.
The Friends of the Library work very hard to support our library. All profits from this sale go directly to the Sylmar Branch Library. The Friends have sponsored the children's summer reading program, the young adult after-school programs and have purchased many large-print books.
With citywide budgetary cuts, the needs of the library are even greater. Shopping at the Friends' book sale is a great way to gather your summer reading needs at inexpensive prices and support the library at the same time.
Come join us and spend part of your day Saturday,Aug. 16, shopping for books in the air-conditioned comfort of the ,ultipurpose room in the Sylmar Branch Library.
