The Derrick Faison Foundation is committed to the donation and public placement of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in the County of Orange each year. Public access to AEDs can save up to 50% of the 500,000 Americans who die suddenly from cardiac arrest each year. In addition, sadly to say, we are now losing a high school athlete every 3 days in the United States to Sudden Cardiac Death. The mission of our foundation is twofold, it is to continue the important work and valuable contribution Derrick Faison made during his brief but extraordinary life and to prevent other families from suffering the tragic loss of a loved one to sudden cardiac death like his family did. The Derrick Faison Foundation is also making a difference in the lives of under-privileged children by providing college/technical school scholarships annually. We strive to provide them with an education they may not have otherwise had the opportunity to experience.
The 2008 Derrick Faison Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled for October 10th at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club. Our goal is to raise the funds needed to provide our 2008 student recipients with scholarships and to provide program implementation, training and AED's to as many local Orange County organizations as possible. We are fortunate to have the assistance of "The Ray of Life Foundation" and "Heartfelt Cardiac Projects" over the past year, who has partnered with the Derrick Faison Foundation in providing the training needed when placing these life-saving devices and providing heart screenings for early detection of undiagnosed heart disease. Through Heartfelt Cardiac Projects, we have already screened over 3000 people!
