Blog Entry 22 of 28 Get a DWP Sub Water Meter Save $
California Utility Services 1-800-400-1727 The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation recently sent out information about your Sewer Service Charges to all 500,000 homeowners and 125,000 commercial customers. Once a year this is sent out along with reference to their website which further confuses the rate payers on exactly what are the SSC charges. Bottom line is this charge is a hidden tax levied by the city agency to maintain the infrastructure of our sewer system and treatment plants. Bureau of Sanitation has been collecting from DWP approx. $350 million dollars a year from this hidden tax. Where has the money gone all of these years? A portion has paid back the city general fund when there is a deficit every year. Most of the money goes for high salaried seasoned workers who need to be trained to get the job done and money spent on sub contractors outside the agency who over charge to do the job seasoned workers can’t do. Now a billion dollars is needed to fix our sewer system. The sewer service charge rates are going up for the next 5 years. Save your hard earned money by installing a Sub Water Meter. Don’t get overcharged by a plumber who does not know what he is doing but smells good. We get more Sub Water Meters than anyone else in the city. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce California Utility Services. We are a service business for LADWP account holders that does it all for you. Our primary objective

Water Sub Meters at California Utility Services
Contributed by: Leonard Horowitz   on 6/24/2008

Public Works Sewer Service Charges will be increased July 1st. The new rate will be $3.27 per HCF (748 gallons = 1 HCF). Bureau of Sanitation charges ratepayers by an estimation which will also increase July 1, 2008. They receive from ratepayers over $550 million per year to fix the infrastructure of the filtration plants and sewer system. What they do with the money is anyone's guess because the sewer infrastructure needs a billion dollars worth of work. I suppose high union salaries and over priced sub contractor's helps spend the money. The whole SSC estimation is done by a convoluted formula made up at the Bureau of Sanitation. Bottom line this portion on your DWP bill is a hidden tax. In many cases this sewer service charge portion can be reduced up to 80% by installing a DWP sub water meter. This meter will give you an actual count rather than estimation.
