Farewell, Melinder
Contributed by: Annie Hundley / valleynews.com   on 5/17/2007

"I want to see my girl Melinder in the finals."

Oh, Simon. Sometimes dreams just don't come true.

Melinda Doolittle was outsted from American Idol last night. Some viewers are pretending to be outraged (OUTRAGED!) at the result, but I think we all know it's for the best. Lots of people have predicted that Melinda would win this year. But since when did the most talented person win Idol?

Was Melinda the most talented of the top three? Yes.

Did she have the whole package - talent/personality/looks - that voters are looking for? Nope.

Melinda was a bit wooden throughout and I'm sure there were plenty of young voters who would simply rather look at Blake or Jordin.

I liked Melinda and I actually voted for her this week, but when it was announced that she was going home, all I thought was, "good for her."

It'll be better for her to strike out on her own career, rather than be restricted to the Idol contract anyway. I'm sure she'll have an album out soon and I predict it will sell very well, especially with us "old" Idol viewer - those of us over 13!

So next week we're looking at a Blake-Jordin faceoff. It will be very interesting. Now we're looking at two completely different artists who shine in totally different genres. Should be interesting!

I'm predicting a Jordin win.

I agree, Annie, loosing the top spot is gonna be a great thing for Melinda. I've been anticipating this turn of events for a while, as those millions of votes funneled down to only three, all those teens went for Blake and Jordin (not to mention votefortheworst!). But I don't think votefortheworst will have a winner this year. Still, we'll see! http://denver.yourhub.com/Parker/Blogs/Arts-Entertainment/Music/Blog~310209.aspx

I hardly get to see the show because I'm at my son's Boy Scout meeting and by the time I get home the show is half over, but I saw enought snippets this year to judge that Melinda was the best vocally. You're right, though, she never seemed very comfortable and her discomfort became my discomfort. Somehow I've missed or can't remember seeing Blake perform except for a snippet from the Bon Jovi performance which horrified me. Jordin seemed to be one of the top-tier performers, but I was secretly hoping that Melinda would flower and capture the top spot. I have no dog in this fight now so I'm not particularly excited about anyone winning it.
