Farewell Phil, Chris
Contributed by: Annie Hundley / valleynews.com   on 5/3/2007

Last night Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson were sent home on American Idol. It was sad to see the two nice guys go, but America got it right, leaving the most talented contestants safe in the top four.

Phil and Chris were both sent home as a result of two weeks of voting - last week's Idol Gives Back was combined with this week's Bon Jovi performances. In total, the eliminations were based on 135 million votes. Neither Phil nor Chris performed poorly during the past two weeks, but they were outsung by the amazing vocals of Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones and Jordin Sparks and outperformed and outinnovated by Blake Lewis.

Both the guys came across as really wonderful people as they bowed out gracefully. Phil sang his farewell song out in the audience, singing to Navy buddies and his adorable wife. In the video the producers compiled Phil said his entire experience was for his two young daughters, in an effort to give them a better life. Cue the tears!

Chris seemed to know his fate when he and Blake Lewis were brought onto the stage at the end of the show. The two said that they were "best friends" - awwww! - and Chris said he'd go home for his friend, Blake. Well, that's exactly what he did do. Chris got a little teary-eyed while watching his farewell video, as did his family in the audience.

But if these guys play their cards right they'll do fine in the music industry. Last year, Chris Daughtry finished fourth and he became the biggest selling artist to come out of that season. I envision a country album for Phil and a pop album for Chris. I hope they do well.
